Japan blow Pool A wide open with win over Poland

 

Cairo, Egypt, August 21, 2017 - Japan scored their second win in the 2017 FIVB Men's U23 World Championship here Monday 4-2 (15-13, 14-16, 15-12, 15-13, 8-15, 15-13), blowing wide open both the races for a berth in the 5-8 bracket a ticket to the semifinals.

Japan are now 2-2, but do have an extra point from their seven-set defeat to Egypt earlier, which could come in hand in case of of a tie. Poland dropped to 2-2.

All matches in Cairo are played under a new scoring system currently being tested: a best-of-seven, 15-point set format.



Japan were led by Kenta Takanashi on 18 points and Masato Katsuoka on 14 - though it was Poland's Kamil Semenlyuk with 23 who was top scorer of the game.
