President's Message

I am happy to once again welcome you to Egypt for the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Under 23 World Championship.

This will be the third edition of the tournament having first been introduced in 2013. Since then, the tournament’s vibrant nature and exciting action has made it a favourite for fans, coaches and players around the world.

Egypt has a rich volleyball history, and it is wonderful to see a major tournament return to the country. It is the third time the country will host an age group completion having welcomed the 1991 U21 and 2001 U19 World Championships. I have every faith that they will once again be magnificent hosts.

The diversity of hosts for the tournament, and indeed countries competing, illustrates the FIVB’s commitment to making volleyball for all. The organisation is constantly striving to make volleyball the number one family entertainment sport and to do that, we need to bring this wonderful game to the masses. Tournaments such as this one provide a platform for us to do just that.

With the best two teams from each continent competing alongside the host nation and the highest ranked team not already qualified through continental tournaments, this is sure to be a high-level competition and I cannot wait to see how each of the teams raise their game to perform alongside the very best in their category.

Egypt is a fantastic location and I know that the Egyptian Volleyball Federation will be the perfect hosts for the players, coaches and staff as they chance U23 glory this week.

Dr. Ary S. Graça
FIVB President
