'Fire and Fury' from Russia attack in sweep of China

 

Sergei Pirainen led Russia with 11 points and 80% attacking efficiency.

Cairo, Egypt, August 20, 2017 - Russia demolished China 4-0 (15-8, 15-11, 15-11, 15-11) in yet another show of force here Sunday, as Day 3 of the 2017 FIVB Men's U23 World Championship got underway. It took the defending champions a mere 49 minutes to get the job done.

Russia remain on a perfect record of three wins in as many matches with full points and not a single set dropped. China drop to 1-2.

All matches in Cairo are played under a new scoring system currently being tested: a best-of-seven, 15-point set format.



Sergei Pirainen with 11 points and Denis Bogdan with 10 led the scoring for Russia, who were unstoppable on the net. Overall Russia got 37 kills in 50 swings for an incredible 74%, including an impeccable 8/8 (100%) from Aleksei Kononov and 8/10 (80%) from Pirainen.
