Cairo, Egypt, August 18, 2017 - China came back from a set down at 1-2 and to defeat Turkey 4-3 (19-17, 12-15, 11-15, 15-8, 15-10, 10-15, 15-10) in an hour and 42 minutes on the opening day of the 2017 FIVB Men's U23 World Championship.
Turkey had missed the chance for an early lead, when they blew a set point at 14-13 in the first. They managed to come back from 3-2 down to force a seventh, but China dominated the decider.
All matches in Cairo are played under a
new scoring system currently being tested: a best-of-seven, 15-point set format.
Zhou Liying led the scoring for China with 21 points, as the winners served eight aces to Turkey's three.
Turkey was more effective on the blocking front, producing ten stuffs to China's eight, but conceded a whopping 36 points on unforced errors.
