Russia open defence of Men's U23 Worlds with solid win over Algeria

Cairo, Egypt, August 18, 2017 - Defending champions Russia overwhelmed Algeria 4-0 (15-8, 15-11, 15-11, 15-8) in 49 minutes here Friday on the opening day of the 2017 FIVB Men's U23 World Championship, with Denis Bogdan scoring 12 points and Sergei Pirainen adding another 10.

All matches in Cairo are played under a new scoring system currently being tested: a best-of-seven, 15-point set format.



With another solid performance from setter Pavel Pankov, Russia dominated the match throughout and served nine aces while conceding none and getting six stuffs to Algeria's one.
